How to Make Money with ChatGPT in 2023 [Prompts Included]

Make Money with ChatGPT

Everyone is talking about ChatGPT, OpenAI‘s “Generative Pre-trained Transformer” chatbot. It’s currently free to use and a blast to try out. But can you actually help people and make money with ChatGPT?

Below I’ll share how I use it to make money and provide other ideas you might want to try.

In short, yes, you can make money with ChatGPT. But it’s best used when you merely leverage it to do what you’re already doing. For instance, I’m a blogger and the founder of an event company. How I use it might be different than how you use it.

How to Make Money with ChatGPT

Let’s get down to the nitty-gritty and find ways to make money with ChatGPT. I’m starting with the ways I’m currently using it.

1. Generate Content Ideas

ChatGPT is an endless idea machine. You can use it to generate content ideas on any subject. And you can keep generating ideas and diving deeper into subjects. It’s amazing really.

More content ideas mean I can create more helpful blog content for readers, which (from a financial standpoint) brings more search engine traffic and results in more ad revenue or sales.

ChatGPT Helps Me Find Blog Post Ideas

For instance, I recently wrote a post on making money in the golf industry. I was a bit short on ideas toward the end of writing my article and so I asked ChatGPT to help.

ChatGPT provided a few more ideas I hadn’t thought of. I added sections for these additional ideas and wrote the content. Now, this post ranks #2 for my search term! In part, I’m sure, because it’s one of the most comprehensive.

You could use ChatGPT to generate blog post ideas for yourself or your clients (if you’re a freelancer/agency). Ideas sell.

2. Rewrite Existing Blog Post Headlines

ChatGPT, “please rewrite this headline and make it more catchy: boring blog post title“.

I’ve been doing this recently with blog post titles that don’t have a great SERP click-through rate. The results are still out, but I’m confident I’ll see more traffic because of this. Especially those posts in the 5-9 spots.

If you’re a blogger like me, you could do the same thing. Here’s how to find your posts with low click-throughs. If you’re a freelancer or marketing agency you could offer this service to busy entrepreneurs who could use it.

3. Create Draft Blog Post Outlines

Taking the content thing a bit further, ChatGPT will actually help you write blog post outlines.

Let’s say you’ve taken your post ideas to the list generated above and are ready to tackle one of the topics. Instead of starting with a blank page, ask ChatGPT to give you a little outline to get the creation process started.

ChatGPT Generates Blog Post Outlines

Sure, you could copy the outlines from other websites (and you may want to look at those too to compare), but ChatGPT will give you more outline ideas in a cleaner format.

One caveat, I would not take these outline points and use them verbatim. Edit the list for accuracy and put your own tone/language in them. Don’t just copy this. ChatGPT isn’t always correct.

4. Write Code for Simple Web Tools/Calculators

I know just a little HTML. I know even less PHP or CSS. If I wanted to make any basic changes or additions to my website/content, I would usually go to my friend Alfie, the developer who I met on Upwork, and submit a job to him.

That takes money and more importantly, time. For such little projects, I can now use ChatGPT. For instance, let’s say I wanted to add a simple interest rate calculator to my savings account blog post.

I could first ask ChatGPT to solve the problem for me so that I know it understands properly (it’s bad at math). Then, I would ask it for the HTML, Javascript, and CSS code to put it on my website.

ChatGPT Helps Build a Savings Calculator

With a WordPress plugin like WP Coder, I can add all of this code into a simple shortcode that gets placed on a new blog post or in an existing one.

I plan on doing this across all of my content to make it more engaging and useful for readers. You could do the same, or offer a service that creates these tools for others.

5. Clean Up Existing Content

As someone who’s been blogging for over ten years and has a ton of content, this is one of my favorite uses of ChatGPT. You can ask it to rewrite sections, add better intros (even jokes or hooks), and create FAQs for relevant blog posts.

As a content creator, you have no excuse for poor-performing evergreen existing content. We all know how to improve our content. It’s usually just such a daunting task that we end up pushing it off. Now with this tool, you can get these things done.

As a freelancer, you could offer a service to clean up / refresh existing content for blogs, websites, etc.

This is probably a good time to point out that content generated by AI can usually be detected. So test your content against a service like Originality.ai to ensure that it can pass the test of being human generated and also avoid any plagiarism.

6. Write Ad Copy for Sales Pages or Emails

ChatGPT shines when it’s asked to write in a convincing way. I’m not a great copywriter necessarily. I tend to write more casually and matter-of-fact. But ChatGPT can take my copy and turn it into something more convincing and exciting.

I recently did this with the description of my conference, FinCon. I have some existing text about the event that read like it was from Wikipedia. Good for some purposes. But not great for marketing and sales placements.

I asked ChatGPT to rewrite it so I could place the text on a blog post about the best personal finance conferences. I loved how it turned out.

ChatGPT Helped Me Write This Sales Copy

Think of all the sales copy you could write or rewrite for your business. If you’re a freelance copywriter you could use ChatGPT to supplement your skills.

(Okay, now I’m going to get into some other ways to make money with ChatGPT that I haven’t used. I will link to resources or examples where available.)

7. Invest in OpenAI and Other Artificial Intelligence Companies

While you can’t yet invest directly in OpenAI, the company (an IPO should be coming soon, I would think), you can invest in companies that will be using artificial intelligence or who have themselves heavily invested in OpenAI,  like Microsoft.

8. Find Endless Side Hustle Ideas

I like to pretend we have a lot of side hustle ideas here on this blog. But the truth is, ChatGPT will put me out of the idea business. Go try it right now. It can generate millions of different side hustle ideas for you to choose from. And if you ask it, it will tell you exactly how to take action on that side hustle.

9. Provide Translation Services

I’m unsure how long this will last, but ChatGPT can translate text into different languages. If you can find someone who needs this service (via Fiverr, for instance) and doesn’t have the time or know-how to use ChatGPT themselves then you could create some income for yourself.

10. Write Scripts for Youtube

Want to offer scriptwriting services or create your own scripts? ChatGPT is great at distilling information into a script format suitable for platforms like Youtube. And even if you don’t have existing content to riff off of, ChatGPT can create scripts out of thin air.

11. Build Entire Business Websites

Commercial websites for lawyers, CPAs, restaurants, you name it, can all be built now using content generated from ChatGPT. I used to build websites as a side hustle. My least favorite part of the business: writing the website copy. The business owner didn’t want to write it and I always struggled to write it with the correct tone. Chat GPT to the rescue.

12. Become a ChatGPT Expert and Sell Your Knowledge

As amazing as ChatGPT is, you still have to learn to use it properly. It’s only as smart as the prompts you put into it. If you get fascinated by this new technology, you can sell your knowledge to others – as a service or as a one-off course.

For instance, I recently purchased AI Content Reactor from Rob Lennon. Rob charges $150 for the course and community access. I imagine he’s creating a nice income from his efforts. And his course is helping me make the most of ChatGPT.

13. Create Social Media Posts

Want to optimize your existing content for certain social media platforms? ChatGPT can help with this. Busy entrepreneurs often don’t have time to devote to these platforms. ChatGPT can help you scale your social media management business. I had ChatGPT write this tweet:

“Want to help people and add some extra cash to your pockets in 2023? This blog post has the answer: making money with ChatGPT. Follow the prompts and tips for success. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to boost your income!”

14. Get Paid to Answer Questions

I’m a little torn about mentioning this one because it can lead to some nefarious uses. But there are sites that pay you to simply answer questions for them. Think Quora or tutoring sites.

While it’s best if you’re actually drawing upon your own knowledge and experience, it can’t hurt to have ChatGPT work with you to supplement your knowledge and become a better expert/tutor.

15. Create Resumes for Job Seekers

ChatGPT can actually help you make a resume. I did it when I was creating an example resume for a part-time job seeker. You can do the same for clients and help them craft a resume using some of their basic info.

16. Write the Plot for Your First Book

Yes, authors are using ChatGPT to help them write books. Here’s an author using it to create titles and actual plots for their books.

17. Build a Chatbot that Uses the ChatGPT API

Finally, you can use ChatGPT as the source of knowledge for any chatbot you want to create. The sky is the limit here. And frankly, this is where the big money will be made, SAAS products that use AI.

For instance, Alfred is an IOS app that sits on top of ChatGPT and allows you more functions in a native mobile experience.

Tips for Making Money with ChatGPT

If you’re thinking about making money with AChatGPT, here are a few things to consider:

  • Make sure you’re using these tools in a legal and ethical way. This includes being mindful of data privacy and not engaging in any discriminatory practices.
  • It’s important to understand the limitations of ChatGPT (and all AI) and use it appropriately. It’s not a replacement for human expertise and judgment. Test all of your content produced on ChatGPT against Originality.ai.
  • Finally, consider how your client perceives AI and how it may affect their business. Some people may be hesitant to use products or services powered by AI, so be transparent about your use of these technologies and address any concerns your customers may have.

(Closing remarks, written by ChatGPT)

So there you have it, folks! With ChatGPT at your fingertips, you’ll be raking in the dough in no time. And let’s be real, who wouldn’t want to make a fortune while barely lifting a finger?

Just make sure you don’t spend all your newfound wealth on buying more AI assistants to do your bidding – trust me, they’ll just end up taking over the world and you’ll be out of a job.

Better to stick to the old-fashioned method of earning money the hard way: by slaving away in an office for 8 hours a day, 50 weeks a year. Haha just kidding (kind of).”
