What Is Cash App?

Cash App is a digital financial services app that allows you to send and receive money, similar to Venmo and PayPal

But Cash App offers other features, including stock and Bitcoin investing.

You can invest with Cash App for as little as $1 per trade, which means you can buy fractional shares of stock. There are no fees for investing in the stock market, but you will pay a fee for Bitcoin trades through Cash App.

You can also order a Visa debit card, which converts the Cash app into a spending account to make purchases online or in stores, and ATM withdrawals.

You can also file your taxes with Cash App (the company acquired Credit Karma Tax in 2020.)

Cash App Fees

There are fees for using Cash App. For instance, you’ll pay between 0.5% and 1.75% for instant transfers.

Sending money to family and friends – or receiving money from them – is free. As mentioned earlier, investing is free too. However, there are fees for investing in Bitcoin.

Spending/Transfer Limits

Cash App places limits on spending, ATM withdrawals, and transfers.

For example, the standard limit for sending and receiving money is $250 within a seven-day period and $1,000 for 30 days.

The limit is per action (i.e., $1,000 for sending and $1,000 for receiving) and not collective.

ATM limits are $310 per day, $1,000 in a 24-hour period, and $1,000 per week. See the Cash App website for additional limits.

Note that you can qualify to increase some limits by verifying your account or other actions. Want to know more about Cash App? Read our full Cash App review

How Can I Reload My Cash App Card?

There are several ways to reload your Cash App card. Here’s a rundown of a few of the easiest and most common methods:

Transfer From Your Linked Bank Account

Your Cash App account allows you to make lump sum transfers from your bank account to Cash App. To do so, you need to link your primary bank account to the app.

Cash App offers two types of transfers from bank accounts: Regular and Instant.

Regular transfers are free but can 1 to 2 days. Instant Transfer moves your money within a few minutes for a fee.

Set Up a Recurring Deposit From Your Bank Account

Another option for reloading your Cash App card is to set up a recurring deposit from your bank account.

Lump sum transfers must be initiated every time you want to move money. Recurring deposits automatically transfer money from your linked account on specified days.

As an example, you can set up a recurring deposit on the 15th of every month or a certain day of the week.

There are no fees to set up recurring deposits to your Cash App account from a linked bank account as long as you don’t choose the Instant Transfer feature when doing so.

Request Money from a Family Member or Friend

Another way to reload your Cash App card is to request money from a family member or friend. This works well if they owe you money for any reason.

Simply reach out to your fellow Cash App users, such as a parent, friend, or sibling, and ask them to send money to you using your unique Cashtag. (A Cashtag is a username that each Cash App member gets.)

Set Up a Direct Deposit to Your Cash App Card

Cash App does offer the option to set up a direct deposit to your Cash App card. Direct deposits can come from your employer (payroll), a government benefit, or any other income source that provides a direct deposit option.

Select the direct deposit menu option in Cash App, and you’ll receive the instructions for setting it up.

Refer Friends to Cash App

Another option for reloading your Cash App card is to refer friends to the app. Cash App has a referral program that will pay you up to $15 when you refer a friend who signs up to use the service.

Note that your referral has to make a qualifying transaction before you get paid. However, it’s super easy. Simply have your referral transfer $5 to you, and you can repay them with cash or transfer the money back.

Use Cash App Boosts

Cash App has a feature called Boosts that can indirectly help you boost your balance.

Boosts offer discounts on the places you use your Cash App most often. For instance, you might see a 15% discount on your next visit to your favorite coffee shop.

Boosts are specific to specific types of stores. For example, you might see a grocery store Boost or a coffee shop Boost.

That being said, there are limits to which stores you can use the Boost categories. The Cash App website mentions Walmart as an example.

The site says that you can’t use your grocery store Boost at Walmart because Walmart is more than a grocery store. (Luckily, there are plenty of ways to save money on groceries.)

You would have to use a grocery store Boost at an actual grocery store, like Kroger’s or Winn-Dixie.

Your Cash App account will show a variety of Boosts but can only have one Boost active at a time. However, you can switch Boosts as often as you want.

Make a Cash Deposit at a Participating Store

Several retail stores, pharmacies, and grocery stores will allow you to deposit cash on your Cash App card. You’ll most likely need to visit the store’s customer service counter to make the deposit.

Note that there is a fee for depositing cash onto your Cash App card at participating stores. This fee varies but generally runs around $4 per transaction.

Which Stores Accept Cash App Reloads?

Several retail stores accept Cash App reloads when you bring cash to the customer service counter.

Some partner stores include:

  • Target
  • Walmart
  • Walgreens
  • Kroger’s
  • Rite-Aid
  • Kwik Trip
  • Speedway
  • Go-Mart
  • H-E-B
  • Dollar General
  • Dollar Tree
  • Family Dollar
  • 7-Eleven

Not all locations for each store will accept Cash App deposits. See the individual store for more details.

Can I Use an ATM to Reload Cash App?

Cash App allows you to make ATM withdrawals. There are limits:

  • $1,000 per transaction
  • $1,000  per day
  • $1,000 per week

You will pay a $2.50 fee when you get money from Cash App via an ATM withdrawal. The ATM operator may also charge a fee.

However, if you have a Direct Deposit of at least $300 a month, you can get unlimited ATM reimbursements and free ATM withdrawals for the 31 days following the qualifying Direct Deposit.

Note: You cannot make ATM deposits to your Cash App card.

Final Thoughts

As you can see, you have plenty of options for reloading your Cash App card. If you plan ahead, you shouldn’t find yourself in a situation with no available funds.

The best part is that most methods for reloading your card are free. Head to the Cash App website for more details on reloading your Cash App card.
