$1,000 Bank Bonus Offers

Are you looking for a bank that will give you over a thousand dollars to open an account?

Banks usually go one of two ways when it comes to bank bonuses – they require you to set up a direct deposit OR you can move over a large sum of money and hold it there for a few months.

A lot of banks will offer you a few hundred dollars to move your direct deposit, but for the truly big money – we’re talking thousands of dollars – they want you to move over a large sum. If you have a bit of cash sitting around, you could get even more.

Maybe you just sold something big – a business, a house, another major asset – and you need to hold that cash somewhere safe for a few months before you do something with it (buy another house, business, or major asset!).

Whatever the case, it’s possible to make extra cash with some of these bank offers:

Table of Contents
  1. Citi Priority Account — $300, $700, or $1,500
  2. Citigold® Checking Account — $300, $700, or $1,500
  3. Ally Invest – up to $3,000
  4. Chase Sapphire Preferred Card – 60,000 Ultimate Rewards points
  5. Capital One Spark Cash Plus – up to $1,000 cash bonus
  6. HSBC Premier Checking – $500
  7. Other Bank Bonuses

Here’s a summary of the bonus details below.

The table lists the lowest tier above $1,000 and what it takes to get that bonus. In some of the deals, like Ally Invest, there are even higher tiers but this table lists just the lowest above-$1,000 tier and the requirements.

We included some credit cards in this list too, since you can get a bonus of over $1,000, so the terms are usually spend related, rather than deposit related.

Bank Name Cash Bonus Terms to Get Bonus
Citi Priority Account $1,500 Deposit $200,000+
Citigold Checking Account $1,500 Deposit $200,000+
Ally Invest $1,200 Deposit or Transfer $500,000+
Chase Sapphire Preferred Card 60,000 Ultimate Rewards points Earn 60,000 Ultimate Rewards points after you spend $4,000 in purchases within the first three months
Capital One Spark Cash Plus up to $1,000 cash bonus Earn $500 once you spend $5,000 in the first 3 months and and another $500 once you spend $50,000 in the first 6 months of account opening
HSBC $500 Deposit $75,000+

Citi Priority Account — $300, $700, or $1,500

The Citi Priority Account is the top offer we have available for this – they are offering $300, $700, or $1,500 when you open an eligible checking account and:

  • Within 20 days of account opening, deposit New-to-Citi funds into your new checking and savings accounts
  • Maintain a minimum balance between your checking and savings accounts for 60 consecutive days following the 21st day.

The bonus amount will vary based on the amount you deposit, it’s a tiered bonus based on this schedule:

Minimum Deposit
And Minimum Balance
Cash Bonus
$15,000 - $49,999 $300
$50,000 - $199,999 $700
$200,000 or more $1,500

The Citi Priority Account does have a $30 monthly service fee if you do not maintain a combined average monthly balance of $50,000+ in eligible linked deposit, retirement and investment accounts. You’ll want to avoid that but if you get the big bonus, you’re already avoiding this.

Citigold® Checking Account — $300, $700, or $1,500

Much like the offer above, you can opt for a Citigold® Checking Account too. Just deposit $15,000 or more in New-to-Citi funds in eligible linked accounts within 20 days and then maintain that balance for 60 days following the 21st day.

Again, much like the above bonus offer, the bonus you earn is based on the amount you deposit.

Minimum Deposit
And Minimum Balance
Cash Bonus
$15,000 - $49,999 $300
$50,000 - $199,999 $700
$200,000 or more $1,500

It’ll be deposited into your account within 90 days.

So long as you have not owned a Citi checking account in the last 180 days, are at least 18 years old, and furnish or have a valid Form W-9 or Form W-8BEN on file with Citibank and are not subject to backup withholding, you can participate in the Welcome Checking Cash Bonus Offer in select markets.

Ally Invest – up to $3,000

Ally Invest is the online stock brokerage account of Ally Bank and they will give you up to $3,000 depending on how much you deposit or transfer into a new account. They are the brokerage I use (though I didn’t get a bonus sadly, I have my account at TradeKing and they acquired TradeKing!).

The bonus is easy to get, just open a new account and deposit or transfer funds from another account. If you transfer, they will even reimburse you up to $150 for the ACAT fee, so the transfer will come at no cost to you (most likely).

The bonus amount is based on this schedule:

Deposit or Transfer
Amount
Your Bonus
$10,000 – $24,999 $100
$25,000 – $99,999 $250
$100,000 – $249,999 $300
$250,000 – $499,999 $600
$500,000 – $999,999 $1,200
$1,000,000 – $1,999,999 $2,000
$2,000,000 or more $3,000

Chase Sapphire Preferred Card – 60,000 Ultimate Rewards points

The Chase Sapphire Preferred card has a great welcome bonus – earn 60,000 Ultimate Rewards points after you spend $4,000 in purchases within the first three months.

Normally, Chase Ultimate Rewards points are worth about a penny a piece but when you have the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card, your points are worth 25% more when you use their travel portal. This means the value is about a thousand dollars once you factor in that bump up.

The card is also solid as a daily use card (it’s our primary credit card) because the cashback rewards schedule is so favorable. I go into greater detail in our review of whether the Chase Sapphire Preferred card is worth it.

It has an annual fee of $95.
